The students of Central Florida Hillel collaborate with staff to create vibrant, pluralistic, and engaging celebrations throughout the Jewish calendar year.
Every Friday night that classes are in session, students are invited to join their Jewish community at Central Florida Hillel for a kosher catered meal and family-like experience. The evening includes Shabbat appetizers and schmoozing, an egalitarian student-led Shabbat service and a delicious family-style dinner. Shabbat dinners are usually themed based upon ideas sparked by students, Jewish holidays or events on the calendar. Examples of themes from this year are: UCF Tailgating Shabbat, Israel/Birthright Shabbat, Latin Jews Shabbat, Chinese New Year Shabbat, Harry Potter Shabbat (or, as we say, Harry Shabbat-er) and Spooky Shabbat. If you are looking for a way to start the weekend with a great group of Jewish friends, don’t miss out!
Central Florida Hillel creates an array of opportunities for students to plan and participate in all major Jewish holidays. Staff, and the Jewish Life student leadership team work together to offer events and activities so that Jewish students can enjoy and celebrate the holidays with their on-campus community. Some of the holiday programming that we have offered this year are: Break-the-fast dinner for Yom Kippur, learning about mitzvot (good deeds) in the Sukkah, latke eating contest for Hanukkah and Purim Masquerade Ball with Purim Schpeil.
