We all woke up today with great anticipation for an exciting adventure followed by a major change of scenery. We woke up for a 7:15 breakfast and loaded our luggage onto the bus. We said goodbye to what was our kibbutz home for the past 2 days and set off to our first activity of the day, jeeping! These jeeps were amazing and we spent nearly all of our time in low gear as we traversed the very bumpy area surrounding the Jordan River . The highlight of our time with the jeeps for most of us had nothing to do with the jeep, but instead with the gift that our Israeli participants gave us. One of our Israelis had made each of us a metal, IDF issued “dog tag” that read “Taglit 2017” on top!
Bus 487 Day 3
We got back on the bus after jeeping and headed to Israel’s city that never sleeps, Tel Aviv! We first got lunch in the beautiful Sarona Market and then we headed to a very special presentation from the successful Tel Aviv start up, WalkMe, an up and coming tech support game-changer for large companies. We had some time to hear from a UCF alumnus/WalkMe employee who moved to Israel and started a family. He answered our questions and then yielded to another Israeli in the cyber defense field who spoke about the entrepreneurial nature and success of Israel, which was fascinating.
Immediately after the startup talk we rushed over to Independance Hall to learn how Israel got her start! This museum in the middle of Tel Aviv is the actual site of the signing of Israel’s Declaration of Independance, which allowed us to really visualize the real thing happening in 1948.
We checked into the hotel after an interesting day and got ready for dinner, a graffiti tour, and our night out. The graffiti tour blew away our expectations. It was led by a famous Tel Aviv street-artist named, Niro. He showed us some of the area’s most beautiful public pieces of art and explained their significance. The night out was a great night where many of us walked to a nearby club that a reduced cover for our group. We had a great time dancing before walking back to our hotel to sleep.
Tomorrow promises to be an incredible day as well… Our first in Jerusalem! We can’t wait to get started!
